Hello and thank you for visiting!
I’m an East Midlands-based aspiring artisan woodturner with a passion for bringing a touch of nature and glamour into your home.
Each piece I create is lovingly crafted by hand, often using upcycled wood that would otherwise have ended up on a fire.
I give it a new lease of life - transforming the old into something of lasting beauty and purpose.

The Story Of The Spalted Beech Bowl
The Starting Point
In February 2025, a promising blank of spalted beech burr, measuring 12" (290mm x 70mm), was acquired from English Woods.
What would eventually become known as Bowl 4 began its life as a simple block of wood, yet it held remarkable potential—hidden beneath its raw, textured surface.
The Turning Begins
To bring out the finest features of the grain, careful consideration was given to the orientation of the blank. Once satisfied, the blank was mounted on an 8mm worm screw and trued up at 650 RPM.
From the first cuts, it was clear that this was a premium piece: the swirling grain, rich spalting, and burr figuring demanded a form that would let the wood speak for itself. A simple, elegant shape was chosen to preserve as much of its natural beauty as possible.
The Finishing Touch
Once cured overnight, the bowl returned to the lathe, where the top surface was trued and polished to perfection.
The food-safe polish added both protection and a refined luster to the finished piece.
After a final polish, the bowl was complete—an elegant union of natural beauty, careful craftsmanship, and subtle artistry.
From a raw, unassuming blank to a refined and functional piece of art, Bowl 4 stands as a tribute to the beauty hidden in nature, revealed by patient hands and a discerning eye.
About Me
My journey with woodworking began in my twenties, when I used to build control-line aircraft from balsa wood alongside my father. I loved the precision and creativity involved - and the thrill of flying them afterwards!
After retiring from a career as an engineer and sales manager, I rediscovered my love of working with wood in 2018. I began carving wood spirits and quickly became captivated by the individual character of each piece. A turning point came when a friend needed a walking stick - I made my first one for him and have since crafted many more, both for loved ones and through commissioned work. Each stick is unique and personal.
What began as a curiosity, sparked by watching woodturning videos online, quickly turned into a passion. Inspired, I took the plunge and started experimenting with a lathe. The combination of wood and resin opened up an entirely new world of creative possibilities. I’m now enjoying the freedom to express my creativity while crafting functional, decorative pieces that celebrate the natural beauty of wood. Just like the walking sticks, each creation is unique, personal, and made with care.

Wood is a wonderful material - warm, tactile and full of life.
I’ve always been drawn to nature, especially trees and forests, often capturing their beauty through photography.
Working with wood gives me a strong sense of connection to the natural world. Every piece has its own character, and I take great pride in bringing out the best in each one.
